Lon J. Bromley is currently the Director of Safety for the Circuit of the Americas at Austin, Texas.
Lon continues to be involved in private testing coverage for U.S. open wheel series, Formula 1, sedans, karts, motorcycles, off-road racing and sports cars. He provides expert opinion in legal cases involving motorsport track's and driver's safety.
Over the years Lon has become an intricate part in the planning and building of race tracks, track inspections, safety preparation and coordination of the logistics with local ambulances, fire departments, wrecker companies, Life Flight helicopter services, hospitals and race promoters. He is known for his individualized classes regarding extrication and fire rescue safety to local ambulance EMT/Paramedics and track rescue personnel.
Lon served as the Director of Safety for the CART and Champ Car Safety Teams from 1988 until 2008. He coordinated and trained a team of twenty-seven EMT/Paramedic/Fire Fighters for specific on track medical, extrication, fire suppression and recovery. Lon has coordinated events, not only with the promoters and operations staff in the United States, but also in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and Brazil. He has provided specialized test coverage for speed runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
His previous experiences range from years of Emergency Medical Service, Fire Service and Search & Rescue to management as Director of Ambulance Services at Memorial Hospital; where he also served as the hospital's Hazardous Waste Manager. He is a member of the International Council of Motorsport Sciences (ICMS) and has spoken at the annual symposium.
